A Mosinee manufacturer is embarking on a $1.8 million expansion project expected to create 63 jobs over the next three years.
Arow Global Corp., a maker of window systems for buses and recreational vehicles, broke ground Thursday on a 22,000-square-foot addition that will enable the company to manufacture two more product lines and improve its workflow. The addition is expected to be completed by February.
It can’t come soon enough for Arow Vice President and General Manager Scott Firer.
“We are growing so fast that we’ve run out for room in our factory,” Firer said. “This will allow us to buy a new (milling) machine and handle the new business. Right now we’re just packed wall-to-wall.”
Firer said Mosinee has been an “awesome” home for the business and was an invaluable partner on the project.
“When we realized that we could not expand the building because we were landlocked, the city of Mosinee sold us two acres of land on the north for a dollar and they made this possible,” Firer said.
The state had a hand as well.
The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation is providing the company with up to $200,000 in tax credits and a $300,000 loan for the expansion. The funds are contingent upon Arow creating 63 new jobs by mid-2017 and retaining its existing 143 positions through at least June 2019.
Gov. Scott Walker spoke at the groundbreaking Thursday.
The project will have a positive economic impact on Marathon County and the entire region, said WEDC Secretary and CEO Reed Hall.
Since 2012, WEDC has approved more than $7 million in awards for Marathon County companies that are expected to help create or retain 3,100 jobs in the county, Hall said.
The jobs created — knowledge workers, skilled assemblers and fabricators — all will be local, Firer said.
Arow has grown 300 percent since 2006, growth Firer credits to “great employees who are constantly learning and striving to get better.”
Arow has been operating in Canada and the United States since 1965, and is North America’s top manufacturer of mass transit bus windows.
